Back in September, Apple officially launched its much-anticipated iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max flagship smartphones. In addition, as part of its now-famous ‘one more thing’ routine, the company also unveiled iPhone XR, which sits just a notch (pun intended) below its pricier siblings.

Having most features of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple intended iPhone XR to be an ‘affordable’ smartphone that everyone would love (and by extension, buy). However, over the past few weeks, multiple reports claimed that iPhone XR hadn’t really gained the traction it was expected to, leading to the company cutting back on shipping estimates, and even considering lowering the smartphone’s price in some markets. It seems, Apple doesn’t think that’s the case.

Brushing off reports of sluggish sales and weak customer reception, Apple has said that iPhone XR has been the best-selling iPhone ever since it was released. “iPhone XR has been our most popular iPhone each and every day since the day it became available,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of product marketing was quoted as saying in an interview to CNET.

It’s worth mentioning that Joswiak didn’t offer any concrete numbers regarding the sales of the iPhone XR. Even though the information provided by the VP indicates that the iPhone XR has been selling better than the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, it doesn’t give any details about the sales of the smartphone in context of previous-generation models.

Apple may advertise iPhone XR the most ‘affordable’ of its new line-up, but a simple price comparison with the competition shows that it’s anything but. In India, the ‘affordable’ smartphone starts at a staggering Rs 76,900, which is significantly more than the entry-level variants of Samsung’s top-of-the-line Galaxy Note 9 and Google’s Pixel 3.
