WhatsApp recently updated its terms of service and privacy policy for users. The messaging platform is sending in-app notification to users asking them to accept the policy before February 8 or lose access to their account. Amid the controversy over WhatsApp’s privacy policy, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who becomes the richest man in the world after surpassing Amazon’s Jeff Bezos , asks his followers to use Signal. Musk took to Twitter and said “Use Signal”

What is Signal?

Signal is just another WhatsApp rival. Signal, developed by the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC, is an end-to-end encrypted messaging service.

Similar to Facebook-owned WhatsApp, Signal also allows one–to-one and group messages to friends and loved ones. The messaging platform also allows users to share files including photos, videos, voice notes, and more. Signal messaging platform is available on Google Play store and Apple App store.

Why is Elon Musk asking to use Signal?

Elon Musk’s tweet comes amid WhatsApp’s newly updated privacy policy that highlights the kinds of data it collects from users and send to its parent company Facebook. Users have bashed the messaging platform since then and made #DeleteWhatsApp trend on Twitter. WhatsApp has given time till February 8, 2021 to accept the new privacy policy. Any user failing to accept the policy will lose access to their account.

Musk tweeted “Use Signal” probably because he believes Signal is a better and safer messaging platform when compared to Facebook’s WhatsApp. Thousands of WhatsApp users took to Twitter looking for alternative options. Some of the alternative options of WhatsApp that we believe you can try are Telegram and Signal.

While WhatsApp is being mocked by users for collecting personal user information and sending them to Facebook, it can’t be denied that it is the most popular messaging tool in the world right now.
