Facebook says that millions of Indians turned to their platform in 2018 to celebrate festivals, extend help in times of need, mourn the passing of leading figures, and talk about the issues that matter most to them or their community.

The social media giant on Friday shared highlights of the 2018 Year in Review like every year. It says that Indian festivals, cricket and support for Kerala flood victims connected India on Facebook this year the most.

“India set Facebook buzzing on festivals in 2018 with Krishna Janmashtami, Eid al-Adha, Thai Pongal, Navratri driving the most conversations on the platform, as Indians took to Facebook to celebrate the biggest of occasions with their friends and family,” noted Facebook.

According to Facebook, many people turned up to lend support and offer help for Kerala. Tools like Safety Check, Live, creating Page, and raising funds enabled people to help victims, and reach their near and dear ones.

Cricket, on the other hand, continued to rule the hearts of Indian sports fans, but millions of Indian football fans also came together to support their favorite teams in FIFA Football World Cup 2018. Then it was the demise of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Former Prime Minister of India made people share their feelings about him and also shared tributes by his poetry, inspiring stories of life.

Facebook determines top ‘Year In Review’ moments by gathering a list of the top keywords by volume mentioned in a single day. This year it has taken time period between January 1 and November 11 to identify these unique topics.

Similar to previous years, all Facebook users will get their personal ‘Year In Review
’ video created by them. Starting December 10, users may see a personalized Year in Review video in their News Feed. Alternatively, they’ll also be able to see this video at Facebook.com/memories.
