The year may be drawing to a close, but HMD Global isn’t done with its 2018 launches yet. The Finnish company, which has holds the exclusive license to market and sell Nokia-branded Android smartphones, has a big launch event scheduled for today in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The event, which kicks off at 08:30 PM (Indian Standard Time) has been continuously hyped for quite some now, with Nokia’s social media channels asking everyone to ‘Expect More’.
While not much is known about HMD Global’s upcoming event, it’s being widely speculated that it’ll see the arrival of Nokia 8.1, an upper mid-range smartphone that’ll most likely succeed the current Nokia 7 Plus. Not much is known about the smartphone, but it’s long-been expected to be the global variant of Nokia X7, which has been available in China for quite some now.
Even though Nokia 8.1 is expected to be the star of the show, previous reports have hinted that the event could see at least two more smartphones – Nokia 2.1 Plus and the mythical Nokia 9 – going official. While the former could launch alongside Nokia 8.1, the chances of Nokia 9 being unveiled are slim at best. The reason is simple: Nokia 9, which has long been rumored to come with an insane penta-lens rear camera system at the back, it’s a flagship smartphone through and through, and it’s highly-unlikely that HMD Global will unveil it as a side launch, instead of launching it at a dedicated mega event.
Whatever goodies HMD Global has in store for us today, we’ll find out soon enough. As always, BGR India will be bringing you up-to-the-minute updates of all the action happening in Dubai, so stay tuned for Nokia’s next big reveal!
