WhatsApp, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram down: Know reason, when will these apps start working

Facebook services are down globally including in India. These services include WhatsApp, the main Facebook app, Instagram, Oculus, and also Messenger. It has been over an hour that these services are down worldwide and there’s no official update on when the platforms will be available again. To be specific, it has been over two hours that these services have been experiencing the outage, which is also the longest that Facebook platforms have been unavailable.

While the official reason behind the outage is not known yet, we believe there are some issues on the server side similar to past outage incidents. This is not the first time that these Facebook services have been download. There have been several instances in the past wherein platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger suffered massive outages but not for this long. This is the biggest ever outage that the Facebook platforms have experienced ever.

Highlighting more on the outage, a Twitter user who goes by the handle @chadloder discovered that “someone nuked the DNS A and AAA records for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp”. The user also posted a screenshot of the founding.

We suggest you take this with a pinch of salt since the social media giant hasn’t revealed the official reason for the massive worldwide outage yet. Meanwhile, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey retweeted @chadloder’s tweet and asked how much are Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp up for sale. This is of course a joke!

Commenting on the massive outage, the social media giant said, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

The messaging platform WhatsApp also released an official statement that stated, “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

The photo-sharing app Instagram also shared an official statement on the massive outage globally. The official statement noted, “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown.”

Neither Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger have revealed when these platforms will start working again. So, we will need to wait for more updates from these platforms.

Meanwhile, users have flocked to Twitter and messaging apps like Signal, iMessage and others to connect with friends and family members.
